What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is the art of manipulation and treatment of the body, the mind, the emotions, the "Hara" and the meridians using no tools - Just the thumbs, hands, fingers, elbows, knees and feet. Just doing it will provide all the correct exercise you need. It cools when it is too warm and warms when it too cool. It takes away feelings of isolation and fear and gives the client knowledge and techniques for themselves to keep in balance. That's why we teach it. In these times. It replaces tolerance with patience and practicing it turns knowledge into wisdom. One thing you should know about shiatsu - You can't learn it in a week.

Why Not?

Because although shiatsu without a knowledge of diagnosis is pleasant for a bit of stress and it's always good to be touched and massaged while receiving attention and kindness, it does NOT replace the accuracy, efficiency and depth that a deep and practical knowledge of oriental understanding and diagnosis achieve. I cannot explain in words what this does for you. You have to try it with someone who really knows what they are doing and tell you about yourself than you knew and puts into words and actions, the feelings you cannot express. Shiatsu is the core of modern coaching and there are very few who can get the job done so that there is always contact with new people because the people who are treated properly don't have to come back for more treatment. They are empowered to treat themselves too. It makes them remember their humanity and place in the universe. It makes them calm and compassionate, creative and not enslaved

Shiatsu is about life. All of it. It keeps you young. It's kept me young. It gives you strength and a sense of belonging to something more. It's given me that too. It makes you stress resistant - me too.

If you want to feel naturally good without verbal programming, repetitive mantras, cd's of whale-song and lightweight "shiatsu" people. If you want to see what it can do for you when performed by deeply experienced teachers and therapists. Visit us on Open Day Link or watch the Introduction Video, But much better than that is to try out a basic course and bring a friend (you will both be rewarded with a smaller fee and you will have someone to practice with)

Shiatsu is becoming more popular for only one reason. It works!
Thousands of people in this country benefit from Shiatsu regularly.

Twenty Five years ago. Shiatsu was virtually unknown in Holland and its systematic eastern secrets were not even thought of.
Now, in 2008, schools are becoming established which teach this remarkable and effective therapy and fitness form.

Shiatsu is wonderful to learn and practicing it often gives more to the therapist than to the client. This "more" is experience and depth that continues to develop revealing more secrets of a practical, logical and intuitive nature.

Alan Nash, who has been studying and practicing eastern and oriental techniques for 38 years, has established the Dutch School for Classical Shiatsu in The Hague (het Bezuidenhout). The school has over 100 students for its diploma course and a further 150 students studying Classical Shiatsu on Basic Courses. It is fortunate in having an associated counsellor, teacher and examiner, Mr. Y Kawada sensei who is fully qualified in Japan and has many years of experience and study.

Shiatsu as a healing art and a therapy form is approximately 3000 years old in Japan but has comparatively recently been accepted and integrated in the health service in Japan.

Shiatsu has developed from time honoured Chinese massage practice called Anma that is still practiced in China. The meridians of the human body and their points and meanings are the subject of practical and theoretical study where interested students learn to recognize the deeper aspects of Eastern medicine through their developed ability to feel what is happening in the body while performing treatment on specific meridians and points or combining subtle and accurate stretch techniques with meridian massage. The combined power of the exercise disciplines of Do-In and Shiatsu bring confidence and supple fitness to everyone who practices the techniques.
